High Bridge
Oil on canvas
18”H x 24”W

This painting was commissioned by a native New Yorker, who grew up in the neighborhood of the High Bridge (which connects Manhattan and the Bronx).  He shared with me his wonderful childhood memories of playing in the river near the bridge, and wanted a memory of those days.  This view shows the bridge as it stood prior to a renovation in the 1920s, when a steel arch replaced several of the stone arches.  The character of the bridge is reminiscent of a Roman aqueduct (on which it was modeled).
